Dr Cristiano Capuano (he/him) is a cultural professional based in Naarm-Melbourne, Australia. He has an educational background in visual cultures, photography, and anthropology, as well as work experience in communication, visual editing, and management of cultural heritage.Dr Capuano holds a PhD in Historical, Geographical and Anthropological Studies awarded by the Universities of Padua, Ca’ Foscari Venice, and Verona (Italy). His doctoral research revolved around relational networks in Indigenous Australian photography and how they inform issues of identity, memory, and representation, with a specific focus on the documentary legacy emerging from contemporary visual practices.
Dr Capuano holds a MA in Visual Arts and a BA in Drama, art and music studies from the University of Bologna. He has experience as freelance editor for independent media agencies and associations promoting photojournalism and education in social photography.
